21 ¾” length, black wood (ebony) with spatulate terminal and tapered square section middle. The top is carved as a male head in the cap. Iconic curvilinear geometric decoration below is inlaid with white lime. Pre-contact as the surface is stone or shell finished. Lime, produced by burning sea shells, was used as a pigment and inlaid in carving for color. Shows wear from use including chips to the cap, worn over in its working life.
